FAQ
Short answers to common questions about Nixt Writer — cost, accounts, files and compatibility, exporting, and getting help.
Is it free?
Yes. Nixt Writer is free, for good, with nothing locked behind a payment.
Do I need an account to open a file?
No. Nixt Writer works on the file on your computer. You don’t need an account to open a file, nothing is synced, and the app sends no telemetry.
Which files does it open?
Word documents (.docx). See File formats and compatibility.
Will my file still work in Microsoft Word?
Yes. Nixt Writer is built so that a file you open is still the same Word file when you save it: the parts it does not edit are written back unchanged. See File formats and compatibility.
Does it run macros?
No. Macros in .docm and .dotm files are kept in the file and never run. See File formats and compatibility.
What happens if I open a spreadsheet, a presentation or a PDF?
Nixt Writer tells you which Nixt Office app opens it: Nixt Sheets, Nixt Slides or Nixt PDF.
Can I save as PDF or another format?
Yes: as PDF, a web page, Markdown or plain text. See Printing and exporting.
Can I get back work I lost?
Writer keeps recovery copies of your document as you work, and can open earlier versions. See Autosave and earlier versions.
Where are the keyboard shortcuts?
