Menu bar

Every menu and command in Nixt Mail, when each is available, and how the menu bar differs on macOS, Windows and Linux.

Every command in Nixt Mail is in the menu bar, laid out the way most mail apps arrange theirs: File, Edit, View, Message and Help.

Where the menu bar is

SystemWhere
macOSThe system menu bar across the top of the screen, while Nixt Mail is the app in front. It adds the Nixt Mail application menu and a Window menu.
Windows and LinuxA row of menu names in the Nixt Mail title bar, beside the Nixt Mail name. Press Alt with a menu’s underlined letter to open it. Settings… and Exit are in File, and About Nixt Mail is in Help.
Narrow windows, phones and tabletsNo menu bar. Every command is also available from buttons, the row menu or the keyboard.

The title-bar menu appears only in the full-width layout; see Layouts.

How commands behave

  • Greyed out means not right now. A command that cannot run at the moment — Reply with no message open, for example — is greyed out. It becomes available as soon as it can run.
  • Commands that switch something say what they will do. An item is worded as its action: Show Oldest First while the list is newest first, Show Newest First while it is oldest first.
  • Commands act on your selection. With several messages selected, Message items say so, such as Archive 3 Messages.
  • Keys shown are the keys that work. On macOS, only ⌘ shortcuts are shown beside items; single-letter shortcuts still work, and are listed under Help › Keyboard Shortcuts. On Windows and Linux, the Ctrl shortcut is shown where there is one, and otherwise the single key.
