    Install Nixt Mail

    What Nixt Mail runs on, how to install it on a Mac, keep it up to date, and remove it.

    What it runs on

    SystemmacOS 12 Monterey or later
    ProcessorApple silicon or Intel
    MailAn email address at any provider that offers IMAP and SMTP, such as Gmail, Outlook, iCloud and Yahoo, or at a Nixt DNA Server.

    Install on a Mac

    1. Download Nixt Mail for macOS from the Download page. The file is a disk image (.dmg).
    2. Open the disk image. A window shows Nixt Mail beside a shortcut to your Applications folder.
    3. Drag Nixt Mail onto Applications.
    4. Eject the disk image, then open Nixt Mail from your Applications folder or Launchpad.

    The first time it opens, Nixt Mail walks you through connecting your email. Continue with Getting started.

    Keep it up to date

    Choose Nixt Mail › Check for Updates…, or open Settings › Updates. Nixt Mail offers only versions signed by us, and checks the signature first. See Check for updates.

    Remove it

    1. To remove what Nixt Mail keeps on your Mac — accounts, saved sign-ins, settings and mail kept for offline reading — first open Settings › Privacy and security and choose Erase everything on this device. See Erase everything on this device.
    2. Quit Nixt Mail and drag it from your Applications folder to the Trash.

    Your mail itself stays with your provider either way.
