FAQ

Short answers to common questions about Nixt PDF — cost, accounts, files and compatibility, exporting, and getting help.

Is it free?

Yes. Nixt PDF is free, for good, with nothing locked behind a payment.

Do I need an account to open a file?

No. Nixt PDF works on the file on your computer. You don’t need an account to open a file, nothing is synced, and the app sends no telemetry. The one feature that uses the network is a trusted timestamp on a digital signature, and only when you ask for one. See Signing.

Which files does it open?

PDF documents (.pdf). See File formats.

Will editing a PDF break its signature?

Not for most edits. Filling in a form or adding a comment is added to the end of the file, and the signed part is left byte for byte as it was. See What is kept when you edit.

What happens if I open a Word document, a spreadsheet or a presentation?

Nixt PDF tells you which Nixt Office app opens it: Nixt Writer, Nixt Sheets or Nixt Slides.

Can I save it in another format?

Yes: as a PDF copy, a range of pages, plain text, a web page, or one picture per page. See Printing and export.

Can I undo changes?

Yes. Undo goes back through every change since the document opened. Redaction, adding or removing a password, taking out hidden content and reducing the file size rewrite the whole document and can’t be undone, so keep a copy of the original first. See Undo.

Where are the keyboard shortcuts?

On Keyboard shortcuts.

Something is not working. Where do I get help?

Start with Troubleshooting. The Community page says where to ask.
