FAQ
Short answers to common questions about Nixt Slides — cost, accounts, files and compatibility, exporting, and getting help.
Is it free?
Yes. Nixt Slides is free, for good, with nothing locked behind a payment.
Do I need an account to open a file?
No. Nixt Slides works on the file on your computer. You don’t need an account to open a file, nothing is synced, and the app sends no telemetry.
Which files does it open?
PowerPoint presentations (.pptx). See File formats and compatibility.
Will my file still work in Microsoft PowerPoint?
Yes. Nixt Slides is built so that a file you open is still the same PowerPoint file when you save it: the parts it does not edit are written back unchanged. See File formats and compatibility.
Does it run macros?
No. Macros in .pptm presentations are never run. They are kept in the file. See File formats and compatibility.
What happens if I open a Word document, a spreadsheet or a PDF?
Nixt Slides tells you which Nixt Office app opens it: Nixt Writer, Nixt Sheets or Nixt PDF.
Can I save as PDF or another format?
Yes: as PDF, a Markdown outline or plain text. See Printing and exporting.
Can I get back work I lost?
Nixt Slides keeps a recovery copy every 30 seconds while you have unsaved changes, and the last 20 saved versions of each file. See Undo, version history and recovery.
Where are the keyboard shortcuts?
