Accessibility statement

How Nixt Office is built so that everyone can use it, the standard we work to, how we check it, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.

We want everyone to be able to use Nixt Office: people who use a screen reader, work without a mouse, need more contrast or larger text, or are sensitive to motion. This statement covers the apps, the admin console of Nixt DNA Server, and this website.

The standard we work to

We design and build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, and apply the same principles to the desktop and phone apps.

What is built in

Nixt Mail

  • Your system’s screen reader. Nixt Mail uses the operating system’s accessibility services, so it works with the screen reader built into your system. Controls are announced by what they do, not by their icon.
  • The keyboard. Everything can be reached without a mouse. See Keyboard shortcuts.
  • Text size. Text follows your system’s text size and reflows rather than being cut off.
  • Motion. Nixt Mail follows your system’s reduce-motion setting.
  • Touch. On a phone or tablet, controls are large enough to tap.

Accessibility in Nixt Mail describes each of these in detail, with the settings that help.

Nixt Writer, Sheets, Slides and PDF

Each app has keyboard shortcuts for its commands, listed in its documentation; for example Nixt Writer’s.

Documents you make

Nixt Writer and Nixt Sheets check your own documents for accessibility before you share them: missing alternative text, headings, contrast and more. See the Writer accessibility checker and checking a workbook.

The admin console

The console of Nixt DNA Server is a web application built from standard web controls: tables, forms and buttons that a browser, the keyboard and a screen reader already understand. ? lists its keyboard shortcuts. See The admin console.

This website

Text on this website meets the WCAG AA contrast ratios in both the light and the dark theme. The site follows your system’s reduce-motion setting.

How we check

  • Every screen of Nixt Mail is checked by automated tests for labelled controls, tap-target size and text contrast.
  • The contrast of this website is measured on every text element, in both themes.

Tell us about a problem

If something in Nixt Office is hard or impossible for you to use, write to hello@nixtoffice.com with “Accessibility” in the subject. Say which product and screen, what you were trying to do, and which assistive technology you use, if any. We treat accessibility problems as defects.
